Description
King County District Court has jurisdiction over civil actions if the amount in controversy does not exceed $100,000. Civil cases are usually disputes between private citizens, corporations, governmental bodies or other organizations. They involve the determination of private or civil rights and compensation for the infraction. This may include personal or property rights, such as: - Landlord and tenant disputes - Auto or personal accidents - A breach of warranty - Faulty consumer goods - Contract disputes - Foreclosures - Professional liability suits This jurisdiction DOES NOT deal with actions involving title to: - Real estate - False imprisonment - Libel - Slander - Malicious prosecution - Seduction - A person in his/her capacity as an executor or administrator of an estate The trial in a civil action may be heard before either a judge or a jury. Either side may request a jury.
