Adolescent Emergency Shelter offered at YouthCare
Provides emergency housing for up to 30 days for high-risk and homeless youth prior to foster care or other placement. Offers counseling, life-skills groups, inter-agency school, recreation and case management. A case manager assists youth in applying for benefits. Youth in the program will be helped to stabilize, set goals, and move on to long-term housing situations or re-unify with family members. Reserves two beds for commercially sexually exploited youth.

Application process
Call. Youth must be screened over the phone. Youth can self-refer or be referred by a counselor or caseworker. A parent/guardian must be contacted within eight hours of entering the program and consent to stay in the program must be obtained within 72 hours. If the youth does not feel safe having the parents/guardian contacted, then Child Protective Services (CPS) will be called and consent may be obtained in that manner.

Eligibility
Homeless youth, ages 12-17. Cannot serve anyone with criminal history of animal cruelty, arsonists, assaultive behavior (case by case) or sex offense. Accepts service animals. · No pets. Location is mobility accessible, however staff cannot provide physical assistance getting in and out of chairs, beds, toilets, showers, etc. Clients must be able to transfer from mobility aid themselves.
