Access Paratransit - Certification offered by King County Metro Transit Accessible Services' Customer Service Office

Provides curb-to-curb shared ride transportation using lift-equipped vans and other accessible vehicles for individuals whose disability prevents use of the regular accessible public transit bus and light rail services. Paratransit riders who have been found eligible can request trips one to seven (1-7) days in advance. Expect trips to be shared and take as long as a regular bus ride. Also expect to be picked up a little earlier or later so other rider’s trips can be added to the route. Use Access Paratransit to go anywhere within the same service area and at the same times that the regular public transit and light rail operates. Inter-county trips are available to/from neighboring counties within each county’s service areas.

King County residents who have a disability that prevents independent navigation of the regular accessible public transit bus and light rail services may apply for paratransit services. Applicants will need to submit an application, submit a healthcare professional’s verification of a diagnosed disability, and attend an in-person functional evaluation to assess an individual’s abilities to independently use the regular accessible public transportation system. King County Metro Access Paratransit will notify applicants within 21 days after they receive all information necessary to determine eligibility. Having a Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP) does not affect eligibility for Access Paratransit, and the RRFP does not reduce the Access Paratransit fare. Residents living in the Puget Sound Region but who live outside of King County can apply for paratransit services with their local transit agency and receive reciprocal paratransit services throughout the Puget Sound Region, including King County. Only King County residents should apply for King County Metro Access Paratransit regular eligibility. Visitors with disabilities who can document residency outside of King County and the Puget Sound Region can receive temporary paratransit services.
