Provides critical financial assistance for military families. Examples of financial assistance include: -  Car repair -  Essential home items -  Rent or mortgage -  Utilities -  Dental   -  Food   -  Moving -  Emergency travel & transportation   -  Eyeglasses   Must be able to show that financial resources are insufficient to meet current expenses, and that those expenses are already due or past due.   Can provide only emergency food assistance and eyeglasses to individuals in the general eligibility group.

Helps military service members and their families who run into unexpected financial difficulties as a result of deployment or other hardships directly related to military service.   Assists with basic life needs and unanticipated financial needs such as:   -  Mortgage and rent -  Car payment -  Home and auto repairs -  Insurance   -  Utilities -  Food -  Clothing.    The financial assistance is in the form of up to $1,500 in grants that do not need to be repaid.   All grants are paid directly to the "creditor" (such as the electric company), and not to the individual.   Each case is reviewed individually and acceptance determined by a committee.   Applicants can receive funds only once every 18 months, and only twice total.   Second requests for assistance must be caused by a new situation and deployment.

Provides comprehensive rental and ownership housing counseling services, certified by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Counseling services address topics of delinquency and landlord/tenant mediation; and financial planning and pre-purchase. Also provides general information about HUD-subsidized programs, insurance and fair housing. Additionally, offers a foreclosure prevention program that combines mortgage, reverse mortgage and pre-foreclosure counseling, stabilization loans and repayment plans, to help low-income families in danger of losing their homes. Rather than being forced into a sale by the mortgage holder and thus forfeiting their equity, program offers borrowers two alternative options: avoiding default by working through a repayment plan to stay in their home, or gaining enough time to sell their homes on their own terms. Provides foreclosure mediation services as part of the Foreclosure Fairness Program.

Offers financial assistance to cancer patients in urgent need who are within a three-month window of treatment. Cancer patients may be eligible for a one-time grant of up to $450 to help with expenses including the following: -  Rent/mortgage -  Utilities -  Food -  Transportation -  Dental care -  Childcare -  Medical supplies - Prescription copays Financial assistance may take up to two to three months, so program is not able to assist with immediate shut-off or eviction notices.  

Provides one-time emergency grants up to $250 to post 9/11 wounded servicemembers or their caregivers for assistance with basic needs. Grant money is paid directly to the person owed the debt such as a landlord or utility company whenever possible. Examples of small grants include food, utilities, housing, clothing, health expenses, assistance with child care, vehicle repairs & other routine household expenses, home & vehicle adaption, funeral expenses, adaptive equipment, moving assistance, travel, etc.

Financial assistance is provided as part of a client's service plan. - Financial assistance for housing expenses (e. g. , rent, mortgage), eviction prevention, move-in expenses, transitional housing and shelter expenses. - Financial assistance for medical expenses, medical aids/equipment and prescriptions.
