In partnership with Greyhound Lines, Inc., NRS helps reunite qualified runaway youth ages 12-21 with their families, or alternate living arrangement through a free bus ticket home. Youth must call to start the process.

Home Free Program offered by National Runaway Safeline

Provides free Greyhound bus tickets to runaways returning home. Serves youth ages 12-20. A runaway report must have been filed for youth who are ages 18 and younger.

Programs that help people who are homeless because they have become estranged from their families establish contact with their families. The program may also, where appropriate, help them negotiate the conditions under which they can return to their families and arrange for transportation home.

Homeless Family Reunification Services

Programs that provide bus tickets, or money or vouchers for gasoline for homeless people, relocated disaster victims or other individuals who wish to return to a legal place of residence that is outside the area in which they are currently located and who cannot leave without assistance.

Return to Point of Origin

Programs that provide transportation for people who are endangered and who need a safe ride to a shelter or other program location where their well-being can be ensured. People who may be served include women experiencing domestic violence, runaways, sexual assault survivors and prostitutes who are being threatened by a customer or a pimp.

Transportation for Endangered People

Operates a drop-in center for homeless adults. Offers navigation assistance for housing resources and case management. 
Limited bus tickets available. 
Free Wi-Fi and local phone usage. 
Operation meal service supplies two meals lunch and dinner M-F, Saturday dinner only.
Can sometimes offer transportation assistance to re-unite individuals to family. 
A medical doctor visits the center three days per week to assist with wound care, consultation and referrals for medical care. 
Serves as a cooling  center during hot weather.
Also offers information and referral to assist clients in obtaining resources such as the following:

-  Public benefits

Compass Day Center offered by Compass Housing Alliance at Compass Center

Operates a drop-in center for homeless adults only; NO CHILDREN allowed. Offers housing navigation, phone services, information and referral, and limited transportation help. Serves as a cooling center during hot weather.

Programs that provide cash or tokens for individuals who have no personal means of transportation and are unable to use public transportation (or a taxi service) for necessary local travel without assistance with the fare. Also included are programs that provide bus fare for people who need to travel out of town (e.g., for a funeral) but do not have the means to do so.

Bus Fare

Programs that pay for or provide gauze, cotton, adhesive tape, bandages and other materials which are used to provide protective covering or support for strains, sprains, fractures, wounds or other injuries.

Medical Dressing

Routine health care provided by internists, pediatricians, family medicine specialists, gynecologists, obstetricians, nurse practitioners, midwives, physicians' assistants or other health care providers who serve as the first point of contact with the health care system. Services focus on the prevention and early detection of health problems through regular physical examinations, blood pressure checks, mammograms and other similar procedures as well as therapeutic services for people who do not require specialty care.

General Medical Care

Programs that assign a staff member to assist people who are looking for housing to survey the available residences and to choose and obtain the most suitable option.

Housing Search Assistance

Programs that provide air conditioned facilities which are open to the public during dangerously hot weather. Spending a few hours in an air-conditioned environment can bring down the body's core temperature and make it easier to handle the heat. Older and/or frail adults, homeless people, parents with small children and persons with health conditions that may be made worse by the weather should consider spending time in a cooling center, particularly between 1pm and 5pm when temperatures are at their highest. Cooling centers may also have water and other liquids available to protect against dehydration, and some allow pets.

Extreme Heat Cooling Centers

Programs that provide access to a telephone for homeless people and others who need to make a call and are unable to pay for it.

Telephone Facilities

Centers where homeless people can spend time during the day or evening. Services may include counseling and/or medication monitoring on a formal or informal basis; personal hygiene supplies; facilities for showering, shaving, napping, laundering clothes, making necessary telephone calls or attending to other personal needs; and other basic supportive services. Some centers may also provide meals or facilities for cooking. Programs that focus on homeless youth may provide case management, living skills training, family reunification assistance, classes and other educational supports, pre-employment training, health education (including HIV prevention), help in obtaining valid ID and other services that help youth successfully exit street life and transition to independent living.

Homeless Drop In Centers

Programs that develop plans for the evaluation, treatment and/or care of individuals who, because of age, illness, disability or other difficulties, need assistance in planning and arranging for services; which assess the individual's needs; coordinate the delivery of needed services; ensure that services are obtained in accordance with the case plan; and follow up and monitor progress to ensure that services are having a beneficial impact on the individual. Case management is a collaborative process characterized by communication, advocacy and resource management to promote high quality, cost-effective interventions and outcomes.
