Chinese Information and Service Center, Asian Bar Association of Washington, and Asian Counseling and Referral Service partner with the King County Bar Association to provide a free legal clinic. Pro bono attorneys work with staff and volunteer interpreters to give consultation and legal advice around family law, immigration law, landlord-tenant disputes, employment law, and other areas. Operates a legal clinic providing a free 30-minute consultation with an attorney (60 minutes if an interpreter or other accommodation is needed) Clinic is open to all, but particular focus is on providing culturally-informed legal services in a safe and welcoming environment to individuals who identify as African American or Black. This clinic is staffed primarily by attorneys of color. Provides an initial free 30-minute consultation for individuals who believe that they have been treated unfairly or lied to by an automobile dealership or lender. Also assists individuals who purchased a "lemon," defined here as a vehicle with severe mechanical problems that were not obvious until after the purchase.

Provides free 45-minute to 1-hour appointments with an attorney for advice on civil legal issues such as: consumer, finance/debt, employment, housing, benefits. Appointments are required. Clinics are currently telephonic. Attorneys at the clinic are not able to provide representation.

Processes complaints regarding safety of vehicles, tires, parts and child safety seats.  Accepts safety-related defect complaints as a first step for individual vehicle owners to receive any no-cost manufacturer repair to which they are entitled.  Also compiles individuals' complaint submissions, to determine where safety-related defect trends exist.  Requests and orders manufacturer recalls when appropriate.   Maintains searchable recall and defect investigation databases.

Provides legal advice for the following issues for low-income debtors: -  Lawsuits and issues related to debt collection -  Collection agency abuse -  Supplemental proceedings -  Garnishment -  Auto purchase or auto loan disputes -  Consumer scams -  Contracts/warranties -  Identity theft -  Predatory lending -  Student loans (federally subsidized or private) -  Overpayments to debt creditors -  Poor credit -  Debts to a landlord, or client is considering breaking their lease Does not assist clients with bankruptcy, but can help a client decide if bankruptcy is a good option. Interpreter services are available to assist non-English-speaking clients.

Assists consumers with vehicle warranty complaints for participating manufacturers in Washington under the state's lemon law. Dispute resolution program attempts to settle automotive warranty disputes as an alternative to court. Complaints may be resolved via settlement or by arbitration.

Operates an arbitration program for eligible claims against vehicle manufacturers regarding defective new motor vehicles.   Offers information on the lemon law, such as:   -  What qualifies a vehicle as a lemon -  How to submit a request for arbitration The Lemon Law does not allow a consumer to stop making loan or lease payments while pursuing a Lemon Law claim. It also does not cover problems caused by abuse or neglect, or any modifications or alterations made to a new vehicle after the original retail sale or lease. If the dealer made a proper written disclosure, the Lemon Law will not cover options or modifications requested as part of the purchase or lease. Consumer requested modification sometimes are not authorized by the manufacturer and may void all or part of the manufacturer’s warranty.

Offers a free monthly legal clinic to low income clients providing 30 minute consultations with an attorney on civil legal matters.   Can assist for any civil legal question, including but not limited to the following areas: -  Automobile Accidents -  Consumer Fraud -  Discrimination -  Employment Issues -  Family Law -  Financial Issues -  Housing Law -  Immigration -  Insurance Claims -  Public Benefit Claims   Attorneys provide referrals as necessary.
