Adult Basic Education for adults who may have experienced educational gaps, missed the opportunity to develop certain skills or missed necessary steps in their education. Students may work on basic reading, writing and mathematics, career exploration and college readiness skills.   ESL offers six levels of English and additional support classes. General Education Development helps students prepare for the four-part GED test. Successful completion of the four-part test (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) earns a GED certificate. GED certification is equivalent to a high school education and is usually accepted in place of a diploma.   High School Completion provides an opportunity for students to earn a high school diploma in a college setting, substituting college classes for remaining high school requirements. College level classes may be taken to fulfill both high school and college degree requirements at the same time.

Provides education navigation and support for young people who want to pursue a GED, high school diploma or higher education pathway. Offers career and program exploration, academic support and advising, school financial planning and community resources and referrals.

Offers one-on-one employment assistance for King County public housing and Section 8 residents, designed to reduce barriers between public housing residents and their neighbors in the surrounding community. Includes job training and technology instruction, GED, ESL, and ABE assistance, and peer-supported services.

Helps students earn their high school credential, enter employment and begin college-level studies. Programs include: -High School 21+: For adults who lack a high school diploma now have a new way to earn their diploma. It's called High School 21+, and it allows students to earn high school credit by completing coursework in our Basic and Transitional Studies division. -GED® Classes: For adults, age 16 and older, who want to improve their skills and prepare for the GED® tests. -College Prep: Courses teach foundational skills in reading, writing, math and technology— so adults can move more quickly through pre-college English and math and begin college level coursework. -I-BEST/Career Training programs: Designed to accelerate students toward in-demand jobs at living wages, even for students who have not yet finished the traditional ESL, GED®, or other pathways to college.

Services for all job seekers: - Job postings, a job bank with computers, resume assistance, phones and fax machine, open computer lab - Resume, cover letter, interview skills and technology workshops - Job fairs, hiring events, employer panels and industry forums - Full service Learning Center operated by Renton Technical College offering ESL, Adult Basic Education, GED and the High School 21+ diploma program. Employment workshops include the following classes: - Computer Assisted Job Search: Provides tools and assistance to conduct an effective job search. This includes setting up an email account, learning where to apply online, completing an online application, converting a resume to text only, posting a resume online and learning about career exploration tools. Basic computer skills are required. - Beginning Internet: Teaches how to use the Internet for job search purposes. No computer experience necessary, however Keyboarding and Mouse class highly encouraged as a prerequisite. - Beginning PC Skills: Computer tutorial to help gain speed and confidence on a computer. Will teach how to manipulate a computer and create a document, as well as how to improve typing speed. All levels are welcome. - Mock Interview: Teaches valuable interviewing tips and provides the opportunity to practice frequently in a supportive and realistic environment. - Resume Critique: Provides resume critique and assistance from an employment specialist. Must have an electronic version of your resume, either on a flash drive or within/attached to an email. Must have two job descriptions of jobs you wish to apply to. Limit 8 people per workshop. - Resume & Cover Letters: Teaches how to write a compelling cover letter and resume. Basic computer skills and/or typing experience preferred. - Women's Worth & Rights in the Workplace: Provides tips and tools for effectively evaluating your worth and negotiation power. Will also cover local, state and federal labor standards and what to do when your rights at work are violated. - Interview Skills: Practice responding to typical interview questions and begin the necessary preparation to ace a job interview.

Offers free classes where individuals can build their futures through job training and readiness, educational classes and workshops, and other programs for economic advancement. Classes offered may include: - ESL and GED courses - Basic computer skills - Life skills workshops - Citizenship classes - Personal finance education

Offers Adult Basic Education programs that include classes for: basic computer skills and Microsoft Office, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), high school GED, writing and math, college entrance preparation. Also offers job search assistance.

Offers pre-college level courses in reading, writing, study skills, arithmetic and English language skills for students who want to gain, or improve, their academic skills.   Adult Basic Education (ABE)   Provides reading, writing, math, English, spelling, and adult practical literacy (consumer education). Instruction is individualized and classes are held in a variety of facilities.   GED Classes Classes help improve reading, writing and math in order to pass the GED test. Classes are also held in Spanish. Highline College is a testing center certified to administer the GED test through the GED Testing Service of the American Council on Education.  Individuals 16 years of age or older may earn a certificate of educational competence with a satisfactory score on the General Educational Development test.  Arrangements for taking the test may be made through the Testing Center. Special testing arrangements for students with disabilities are available.   High School Completion Offers students who have had their high school education interrupted an opportunity to earn their High School diploma through Highline College.  Must be age 21 or older.

Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) programs at Lake Washington Institute of Technology teach foundational skills including reading, writing, math, technology, and the English language. LWTech's BEdA program serves over 1,200 students annually in the Kirkland and Seattle Eastside area. The program is designed for adults with academic skills below high school completion or who need to improve their English language skills and allows students to move through college and into high-demand jobs. In addition, BEdA students may choose programs that best fit their path depending on their prior educational experience. Basic Education for Adults Classes in this program are known as BEDA classes, and include coursework in reading, writing, math, communication, and the English language. I-BEST Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) classes at Lake Washington Institute of Technology have two instructors, one supporting the technical/academic learning, while the other supports basic skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking. I-BEST helps students succeed. They are two times more likely to graduate from the college. High School + (HS+) High School+ (HS+) is a high school diploma program for adult learners 18 and older who do not have a high school diploma or equivalency. Adults can work with an instructor to demonstrate abilities in reading, writing, and math within subject areas such as science, history, government, occupational studies, and the arts. English Language Learning (ELL) If you want to improve your English to get a better job or get a college degree, the English Language Learning (ELL) program offers day, afternoon, or evening classes at the Kirkland campus. This program is formerly known as English as a Second Language (ESL).

Offers Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED) courses.   Volunteers are recruited and placed with students enrolled in ABE. Basic & Transitional Studies offers a variety of programs to help learners of all levels, providing the education needed to prepare for college and career readiness. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered to help non–native speakers to communicate in English. Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes are for adults who are already proficient in the English language but wish to improve their basic reading, writing and math skills. ABE classes are also for a student whose placement test results require that they improve their basic skills before they head into college–level courses. General Educational Development (GED®) prep classes are available to prepare for taking the GED® test, a placement test that qualifies one for college–level courses. High School + is for adult students who don’t have a high school diploma or a GED. HS+ students can receive a high school diploma by demonstrating their competence in reading, writing, and math within high school subject areas.

Students work with an instructor to demonstrate competencies in reading, writing and math contextualized in science, history, government, occupational studies, and digital literacy.   The program combines current coursework with previous learning and experience.

Provides free ESL, citizenship and basic skills such as reading, writing, math and computer use classes and tutoring to adult learners. Helps learners prepare for the GED. Provides naturalization assistance to city of Seattle residents. Students enrolled in the program can receive job search assistance and individual tutoring as well.

Offers guidance to middle and high school students and their families seeking alternative school programs. Assists students and families with finding an education program that meets their needs. Alternative learning options available to Highline students include Innovation Heights Academy, Open Doors programs, GED programs, community college/career programs, online classes, and more. Assesses student transcripts, grades, attendance patterns and other individual needs before sitting down to a meeting with a student or family seeking a new school or learning environment.

Reconnect to Opportunity is a re-engagement program that supports young people in King County ages 16-24 years old reconnect to education and employment systems. Outreach Specialists work with youth who have experienced educational and professional barriers throughout their journey. They work within the community connecting young people to programs that support youth and young adult-centered needs and growth. Our participant referrals come from various sources: self-referred, parents/guardians, community organizations, and school staff. Our goal is to ensure youth are connected to opportunity no matter their background. Our core beliefs are that everyone deserves a second chance, positive relationships are essential, and there is more than one path to success. Some of the areas that we provide support with are: looking at different re-engagement programs that are most beneficial to the young person’s lifestyle and learning style, helping youth enroll in a program that best fits their needs, connecting youth to resources that may support other needs (college navigator, case manager, mental health services, etc.), providing initial guidance to employment services and internships, providing a warm handoff when looking into different programs, providing post-secondary resources after high school completion.

Federal Way Open Doors provides a flexible and customized learning path for scholars to address barriers in order to complete school and obtain a high school diploma.
