Provides basic adult education classes for native and non-native English speakers; math, reading, GED preparation; ESL.
Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) programs at Lake Washington Institute of Technology teach foundational skills including reading, writing, math, technology, and the English language. LWTech's BEdA program serves over 1,200 students annually in the Kirkland and Seattle Eastside area. The program is designed for adults with academic skills below high school completion or who need to improve their English language skills and allows students to move through college and into high-demand jobs. In addition, BEdA students may choose programs that best fit their path depending on their prior educational experience.
Basic Education for Adults
Classes in this program are known as BEDA classes, and include coursework in reading, writing, math, communication, and the English language.
I-BEST
Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) classes at Lake Washington Institute of Technology have two instructors, one supporting the technical/academic learning, while the other supports basic skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking. I-BEST helps students succeed. They are two times more likely to graduate from the college.
High School + (HS+)
High School+ (HS+) is a high school diploma program for adult learners 18 and older who do not have a high school diploma or equivalency. Adults can work with an instructor to demonstrate abilities in reading, writing, and math within subject areas such as science, history, government, occupational studies, and the arts.
English Language Learning (ELL)
If you want to improve your English to get a better job or get a college degree, the English Language Learning (ELL) program offers day, afternoon, or evening classes at the Kirkland campus. This program is formerly known as English as a Second Language (ESL).
Summer School offered by Kandelia at Seattle World School
Offers a multicultural academic program in partnership with the Seattle World School (SWS). Helps recent-arrival students from diverse countries increase their skills in math and English.

English as a Second Language Classes offered at Bellevue College
Conducts ESL classes for residents as well as for immigrants and refugees.
Offers intensive ESL and community ESL programs for people with tourist and student visas, as well as local residents.
Volunteers are recruited and placed with student ESL classes.
Volunteers receive sensitivity training and tutoring skills training.
Also offers advanced ESL classes for students focusing on office and customer service/hospitality occupations.
Some child care is available on a fee basis for enrolled students.
ABE/ESL classes are for adult citizens, immigrants and refugees only.
These classes will help students to:
- Develop listening and communication skills necessary as adults in family, community or workplace situations
- Read and write in English for a variety of purposes
- Learn about American culture and everyday life in the USA
Immigrant Transition Programs offered by Chinese Information and Service Center in Seattle
Transition programs help non-English and limited English speakers understand and navigate American culture. Programs include comprehensive information and assistance services, crime prevention and victim assistance, and ESL classes.

Ready to Work ESL & Job Training Program offered by Neighborhood House at High Point
Provides ESL and workforce training to Limited English Proficient clients out of the High Point Center. Provides case management, employment and related services to immigrants and refugee residents.

Classes are offered both day and evening on the main campus, at the New Holly Learning Center, and on the Georgetown campus.
Pre-College Programs offered at Green River College
Offers adult basic education classes, ESL classes as well as GED classes and High School Completion.

Adult Basic Education for adults who may have experienced educational gaps, missed the opportunity to develop certain skills or missed necessary steps in their education. Students may work on basic reading, writing and mathematics, career exploration and college readiness skills.
ESL offers six levels of English and additional support classes.
General Education Development helps students prepare for the four-part GED test. Successful completion of the four-part test (Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies) earns a GED certificate. GED certification is equivalent to a high school education and is usually accepted in place of a diploma.
High School Completion provides an opportunity for students to earn a high school diploma in a college setting, substituting college classes for remaining high school requirements. College level classes may be taken to fulfill both high school and college degree requirements at the same time.
Refugee and Immigrant Health Advocacy Project offered at Center for MultiCultural Health
Case managers provide assistance in accessing basic and emergency resources, naturalization assistance, individual ESL instruction, public benefits application procedures, health insurance programs and health advocacy.

ESL Tutoring offered by St James Cathedral Immigrant Assistance
Offers one-on-one and group English as a Second Language tutoring for low-income refugees and immigrants, ages 18 and older. Request and complete Student Information form. Make an appointment for placement.
Provides individual or group tutoring on English as a Second Language on site, virtually, and at selected locations provided by community partners, such as libraries. Students, tutors and staff work together to design lesson plans appropriate for the goals of the student.
Learning Center offered at YWCA Seattle King Snohomish's Firwood Circle Office
Offers free classes including ESL, GED, life skills, computer skills, citizenship and personal finance education to help promote economic advancement.

Conversational English/Citizenship Class offered at Helping Link
Offers twice-weekly ESL classes and U.S. citizenship classes for the Vietnamese community.
Our ESL program is offered year-round in two increments: 10 weeks during the school year and 5 weeks over the summer. Twice a week, native English speaking and bilingual instructors gather with our clients to teach conversational English in context-focused classes. Classes emphasize social interaction and language skills for specific situations in a safe learning environment. Clients practice language useful for job-seeking and managing other life tasks. This runs hand-in-hand with our citizenship and naturalization classes that focus on American history, government, and social studies.
Classes help students learn English to improve vocabulary and daily communication. In addition, students will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding about the American culture.
Additionally, in our citizenship class, Vietnamese refugees, immigrants, and Vietnamese Americans assist with the application process, citizenship test and interview, while also strengthening their English skills. The 10-week citizenship classes provide practical instruction in order to pass citizenship exams. Topics will vary, tailored to match the needs of the participants, and will include American history and government, civics and social responsibility.
Each class provides at least one native English speaker and one bilingual English and Vietnamese speaker with clients, placing an emphasis on conversation practice and social interaction. Volunteer tutors serve as facilitators to help each client reach their particular goals.

Offers classes on various subjects including ESL and computer literacy. Helps fill out applications for state and local benefits. Assists with finding housing.
System Navigation helps families and individuals navigate resources and applications at the local, state and federal level with Spanish language access.

Basic Skills & GED Preparation offered at Evergreen Goodwill's Job Training Center in Seattle
Provides adult basic education, including computer classes, GED preparation and ESL, to those age 16 and older with multiple barriers to employment. Not appropriate for those with severe learning disabilities.
Offers Adult Basic Education programs that include classes for: basic computer skills and Microsoft Office, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), high school GED, writing and math, college entrance preparation. Also offers job search assistance.
YouthSource offered by King County Department of Community and Human Services
