Provides case management for youth to help them navigate community resources including housing, food and transportation. Also offers help with obtaining a high school diploma or GED, college and career planning as well as internships.

Youth and Young Adult Services offered by Multi-Service Center in Federal Way

Provides case management for youth ages 12-24 to help navigate basic needs resources as well as college and career planning assistance.

Programs that provide financial assistance to help individuals pay for educational placement tests, college/university entrance examinations, test preparation instruction, second language learning expenses or other education-related fees in situations where the person is unable to make the payment without support.

Education Related Fee Payment Assistance

Programs that provide opportunities for people to investigate their occupational interests through simulated job experiences such as role playing; career mentoring, i.e., pairing professionals and people interested in that occupation; and job shadowing, a work-based learning experience that allows a visitor to follow a host during a typical day (or other period of time) observing and asking questions about a particular career. Also included are police explorer programs, fire cadet explorer programs, and other similar groups which provide opportunities for youth who may be interested in pursuing a career in these fields as adults to gain experience in the area.

Career Exploration

Programs that provide instruction for adults and eligible minors who have elected to take a series of tests which measure the extent to which they have gained the knowledge, skills and understanding ordinarily acquired through a high school education. Instruction and testing focus on writing, social studies, science, reading and mathematics. Individuals who pass the tests receive a high school equivalency certificate.

High School Equivalency/GED Test Instruction

Programs that develop plans for the evaluation, treatment and/or care of individuals who, because of age, illness, disability or other difficulties, need assistance in planning and arranging for services; which assess the individual's needs; coordinate the delivery of needed services; ensure that services are obtained in accordance with the case plan; and follow up and monitor progress to ensure that services are having a beneficial impact on the individual. Case management is a collaborative process characterized by communication, advocacy and resource management to promote high quality, cost-effective interventions and outcomes.

Case/Care Management

Programs that provide information and guidance for high school students and others who are preparing for or in the process of choosing and applying for admission to a college, university or other postsecondary institution. Assistance may include information about various college/university programs and their requirements, advice on college/university selection, suggestions regarding high school classes students should take to best qualify for the school of their choice, information and counseling regarding financial aid, assistance in completing necessary application forms and supporting materials such as application essays, and advice regarding the scheduling of SATs/ACTs. The objective of most college/university entrance support programs is to help students select the most appropriate institution and present their credentials in a way that heightens their chances of having their application accepted. Included are programs that sponsor fairs where representatives from a broad range of postsecondary institutions are available to meet with prospective students and discuss course offerings, admission and financial aid requirements, college/university life in general and other information that is pertinent to the selection process.

College/University Entrance Support

Provides financial assistance for those looking for career training.  
Basic Food Employment & Training Program Assists recipients of federal Basic Food Assistance by providing funding for career training, GED, high school completion, or English as a Second Language classes to increase their opportunities for employment. May receive funding for tuition, textbooks, and a parking permit or ORCA transit pass. DSHS approval needed before funding can be awarded. 

Worker Retraining provides tuition assistance, books, and transportation for students who meet eligibility criteria.  
Students must be enrolled in a Professional Technical program or Applied Bachelor's degree program.  
Worker Retraining students receive additional support services with career advising, academic advising, priority registration, and assistance with Employment Security Training Benefits and Commissioner Approved Training applications. 

Opportunity Grant Provides education grants for low-income students who have not yet earned a degree and are studying an eligible program.  
Family income must be below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level  
Provides 45 credits of tuition and fee assistance, books, and transportation assistance.

Workforce Education offered at Cascadia College

Provides financial help for those looking for career training and need financial assistance. Some programs focus on those receiving Basic Food Assistance, TANF or Unemployment Benefits.

Programs that provide cash assistance for people who need additional financial support to pursue an educational or vocational program of study. Also included are programs that forgive past unpaid tuition fees for current or returning students who meet eligibility criteria.

Tuition Assistance

Programs that provide training that is designed to enable employees to perform a job that their previous training has not equipped them for or to adapt to changes in the workplace. Retraining may be needed when new methods or equipment are introduced or when jobs for which employees have trained are phased out. It may also be provided by employers or governments for employees who have been laid off and are no longer able to find employment using the skills they already possess. The need for retraining may arise because of a decline in a particular industry sector or because of rapid technological change.
