Provides financial help for those looking for career training and need financial assistance.   Basic Food Employment & Training Program assists recipients of federal Basic Food Assistance by providing funding for career training, GED, high school completion, or English as a Second Language classes to increase their opportunities for employment. May receive funding for tuition, textbooks, and a parking permit or ORCA transit pass. DSHS approval needed before funding can be awarded. WorkFirst assists recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance from DSHS who need training in order to enter the workforce.  WorkFirst funding typically covers the career training programs that are one year in length or shorter, as well as GED or High School completion. Worker Retraining provides funding for laid-off and dislocated workers as well as vulnerable workers who need training in order to return to the workforce. Vulnerable workers are those employed in an occupation that is not in demand, do not have a previous degree or certificate or need to learn new skills in order to keep their job. Training options include career training programs (certificates and AAS degrees), GED, high school completion, and English as a Second Language classes. Opportunity Grant provides education grants for low-income students who have not yet earned a degree and are studying an eligible program. Enroll in an approved pathway of study: Accounting, General Business degree, IBEST Early Childhood Education, IBEST Phlebotomy, HVAC, NAC or Nursing. Family income must be at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Provides up to 45 credits of tuition and $1000 per year for books.

Provides financial assistance to help veterans with housing, employment and medical expenses as well as life stability. Financial assistance is provided as part of a client's service plan. - Financial assistance for housing expenses (e. g. , rent, mortgage), eviction prevention, move-in expenses, transitional housing and shelter expenses. - Financial assistance for medical expenses, medical aids/equipment and prescriptions.

Provides free tuition and services for current Basic Food recipients who are not receiving WorkFirst cash.   Services include support for childcare, transportation, clothing, housing. and utility shut-off prevention.

This can be through financial assistance, basic needs/resource support, job placement assistance, or academic planning. There are various tuition assistance programs designed to support a student's personal and professional goals. If qualified, students may receive funding for tuition fees, textbooks, required supplies, transportation, and more. Each program is unique and provides additional assistance for students. Provides adult students facing economic hardship with financial aid to continue or complete their higher education, including an Associate or Trade degree. Grants are awarded quarterly for transportation, food insecurity, housing, and childcare, allowing students to remain in school.

Provides the opportunity for TANF recipients to attend Shoreline Community College by paying for tuition, fees, and books for eligible low-income parents.   TANF recipients can obtain a GED, increase job skills, earn a certificate, or enter a new career.   WorkFirst staff is available to discuss educational and employment goals.

Provides financial assistance to youth in care and youth aging out of care to attend an accredited college, university, vocational or technical college. The maximum award students can receive is $5,000 per academic year. Awards are based on the Cost of Attendance formula established by the student's college and any unmet need they may have within their financial aid award. Awards may help pay for tuition, books and supplies, housing, transportation and other eligible educational expenses.

Provides scholarships for students and families who otherwise might not consider college as an option because of its cost.  The amount of the scholarship will be based on tuition rates at Washington public colleges and universities and will cover the amount of tuition and fees (plus $500 for books) not covered by other state financial aid awards.   Students promise to graduate from high school, demonstrate good citizenship and seek admission to a college or university.   Family income will be re-checked and college admission confirmed after the student graduates from high school.   Scholarship awards can be applied toward a certificate or degree from a Washington public, community or technical college, an approved independent college or university, or private career school.

Supports comprehensive employment and training activities while helping clients get the trainings and certifications needed to build a sustainable career, including: -Job counseling -Academic counseling and assistance -Referrals and placement -Support with applications to government benefit programs, such as unemployment and SNAP -Employment-related training Training/Education Incentive:  Individuals entering an accredited college or vocational school program may be eligible for tuition assistance.  Proof of registration and paid fees will be required.    Referrals:  Staff may provide referrals to apprenticeship programs and help clients with job searches.   Support Services:  Upon completing the Workforce Readiness class and finding employment, clients may be eligible for supportive services at the discretion of the Director of the Employment and Training Department.  These services may include: -  Transportation allowance -  Food allowance -  Shoes   -  Work clothing (if required by employer) -  Other reasonable job-related expenses   Summer Youth Employment Experience:  Limited number of work experience positions are available during the summer months to eligible high school students.  Interested parties should contact the WIA office in January for more information.
