Offered by the Department of Defense, provides free, confidential help and information by phone with a professionally trained consultant or online on a wide range of issues for service members and their families.
A program of the Department of Defense, provides free, confidential help and information by phone with a professionally trained consultant or online.
The consultant will help you make a plan, provide customized research, refer you to helpful resources or mail you educational materials.
Consultants provide information on:
- Child care and parenting issues
- Deployment and reunion issues
- Education
- Elder care
- Money matters
- Legal issues
- Transition to civilian life
- Violence and trauma
- Relocation
- Health
- Other topics
Can also coordinate free counseling non-medical services (up to 12 sessions per person, per issue), face-to-face in the local community, by telephone and online.

Provides assistance for traveling active-duty and retired US military staff at McChord Air Force Base.
Assists with needs of traveling active-duty and retired armed services personnel and their dependents, by offering a place for rest and relaxation.
Provides food, sleeping bunks, showers and/or hygiene supplies; a nursery with toys and infant supplies; and/or a lounge with television, video games, library and Internet access. Occasionally provides financial assistance, to traveling military personnel only.
USO is staffed primarily by volunteers.
