Provides legal advocacy for issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault and family law. Please note - no attorney on staff, legal advocacy and referrals only. Distributes packets of self-help forms and assistance filing for protection orders. Legal clinic offered by attorney on an as needed basis for Vashon Island residents.

ELAP provides free 1-hour appointments with a family law attorney for advice and consultation on family law legal issues involving domestic violence. Attorney volunteers are not able to provide full representation or represent clients in court.

Provides advocacy and a support group to Spanish-speaking survivors of domestic violence.  Education, training and outreach is also available to Spanish-speaking communities.

Outreaches at 50 different agencies, including police departments, hospitals and social service agencies, to help connect victims to domestic violence services.  Community advocates meet one-on-one with victims who are not staying at a shelter to educate them about domestic violence, discuss safety planning and provide counseling. Advocates coordinate with the criminal justice system and other service providers at the request of victims. Works with 17 police departments on the Eastside, making follow-up calls to any victim in a domestic violence police case who releases their name.  Child care may be available during advocate meetings.

Provides legal information and advice for the following issues depending on attorney availability:   -  Auto accidents - Birth injuries -  Consumer law - Criminal defense -  Family law -  Finance -  Immigration -  Landlord-tenant law -  Medical negligence -  Personal injury -  Property law -  Worker's rights/wage claims

Provides advocacy-based counseling for victims of domestic violence.  Advocates meet with clients in a safe location to discuss safety planning, provide support groups and other resources and offer moral support. Safety is the primary concern for victims, their children and staff.  Advocates do not meet clients in their homes, and do not meet with couples. Legal advocacy for survivors with court issues related to domestic violence, including protection orders, divorce, parenting plans, employment rights, housing, and eviction. Limited child care may be available.

Provides domestic violence advocacy services, such as: -  Case management -  Counseling -  Support groups -  Legal advocacy   Staff will accompany refugee women and their children of any ethnicity to shelters and will attempt to meet their needs by providing crisis intervention, support, translation, etc.  Also offers education and training to the community and service providers about domestic violence and refugee/immigration issues.   Child care is available on a limited basis.

Offers legal representation for issues that affect large numbers of women or set legal precedents in the Pacific Northwest. Services are available only for selected cases in areas such as:   Discrimination in employment: -  Employment discrimination or other adverse employment actions against survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking -  Refusal of employer to provide leave to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking -  Change in terms of employment based on status as a parent or caregiver -  Change in terms of employment based on pregnancy -  Employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity/expression   Discrimination in schools, including athletic equity and schools' mishandling of sexual harassment or sexual assault.   Family law: -  Discrimination against DV survivors by CPS: Children removed from a parent's care based on allegations that the parent failed to protect children from domestic violence by the other parent -  Refusal of court to order abuser to surrender weapons in a DV Protection Order case or appeals filed by an abuser ordered to surrender weapons -  Abusive litigation against survivors of domestic violence -  Alleged father seeks parental rights for a child conceived as a result of sexual assault -  Parental rights terminated due to parent's incarceration   Nonconsensual pornography AKA "revenge porn": Cases in which private, intimate images of a person are distributed without her or his consent   Anti-LGBTQ discrimination, such as: -  Unfavorable treatment of LGBTQ parents in family law cases -  Denial of insurance coverage for transgender persons  Denial of access to health care, including: -  Reproductive health care, including abortion, contraception, or emergency contraception -  Health care for LGBTQ patients -  Health care or other services for incarcerated women

Provides legal services to relatives and other caregivers to obtain minor guardianship of children whose parents cannot or do not want to care for them. The program provides direct representation through referrals to a pro bono panel of attorneys and/or provides guidance and advice for clients who are unrepresented. The client does not need to be a relative but must have a significant relationship with the child. The child must currently be living with the applicant.

Hosts a legal clinic specifically designed to address the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and couples. This clinic is run by QLaw Foundation in partnership with the King County Bar Association. The clinic is open to everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. At the clinic, an attorney will meet with clients for 30 minutes and provide individualized legal advice and information. Clinic attorneys will answer questions and provide information in a variety of areas including family law, immigration, debt and bankruptcy, divorce/dissolution, employment discrimination, and transgender legal issues.

𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Operates a legal clinic providing free one hour consultations with an attorney for victims of domestic violence with family law issues. Clinic is virtual Clinic attorneys can: - Determine whether the client has a legal problem - Suggest possible options - Help answer papers, summons and requests - Provide appropriate referrals Neighborhood legal clinic attorneys are specialized in areas of family law. Attorneys CANNOT give advice on criminal legal issues or provide representation on any legal matters. Domestic Violence and Family Law Clinic

Provides legal advice and representation in family law issues for potential clients who live or work in Seattle, work with a DV agency located within Seattle, recently fled Seattle, or are cooperating with law enforcement in Seattle, who are survivors of domestic violence and telephone advice to advocates working with survivors of domestic violence. Clients gain access to the program through referral by a domestic violence advocate. Printed materials regarding legal rights, responsibilities and procedures may also be available in various languages.

Advocates provide support through the court process including crisis intervention, information and referral to social service agencies, preparation prior to court hearings, and advocacy during and after court hearings.   Advocates involve other agencies and individuals in the criminal or civil court process.   Will provide community education upon request and work to increase awareness on victims' legal rights, options and resources.  

Provides legal advocacy and crisis intervention for Deaf, Deaf Blind or hard-of-hearing victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. Refers to other agencies when necessary. Supports include: - Help with safety planning decisions - Liaison to those involved in situation( lawyers, hospitals, CPS, counselors and housing systems) - Provides information on survivor's rights - Connection to an ADWAS therapist

Provides free 45-minute to 1-hour appointments with an attorney for advice on civil legal issues such as: consumer, finance/debt, employment, housing, benefits. Appointments are required. Clinics are currently telephonic. Attorneys at the clinic are not able to provide representation.

Provides free civil legal services for youth and young adults between ages 12-24 who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Advocates for and supports Native women during emergencies. Services include the following: - Emergency transportation for victims of domestic violence - Safety Planning - Public benefit application assistance - Advocacy with Indian Child Welfare, Domestic Violence Court, Tribal Courts. - Flexible financial assistance.

Provides non-residential, confidential advocacy services to adult survivors of domestic violence.   Services include:   - Safety planning - DV education - Legal advocacy - Help in accessing community resources - Limited financial assistance for basic needs per funders' guidelines while funds last. Note: No rental assistance is available. - Language interpretation is available in person as well as over the phone.

Provides advocacy for legal and public assistance needs for any victim of intimate partner domestic violence, any gender, living in Seattle, Shoreline or Lake Forest Park. Provides individual and group domestic violence advocacy for all genders. Offers support groups for survivors of domestic violence via zoom. Focus is on DV education, building self-esteem, ending social isolation, and group problem-solving.

Provide information and support in regard to criminal and/or civil legal matters. Advocates are not attorneys and cannot represent in court, however they can help navigate the legal system and provide support and accompaniment through processes such as protection orders, divorce proceedings and parenting plans.

Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) helps people find the right attorney to hire that can help with their particular legal issue. Referrals are to paid attorneys only; LRS is not a pro bono service. LRS has attorney members in most areas of law. Translation services available.

Chinese Information and Service Center, Asian Bar Association of Washington, and Asian Counseling and Referral Service partner with the King County Bar Association to provide a free legal clinic. Pro bono attorneys work with staff and volunteer interpreters to give consultation and legal advice around family law, immigration law, landlord-tenant disputes, employment law, and other areas. Provides advocacy services in King County Superior Court to current or former intimate partner victims of domestic violence. Services include: assistance in filing for temporary domestic violence protection orders, information and referral to social service agencies, domestic violence information, advocacy, court preparation and accompaniment to full order hearings (advocates cannot speak in court), online portal for completing and generating protection order documents for the following civil protection order case types: Domestic Violence Protection Order, Sexual Assault Protection Order, Anti-Harassment Protection Order, Stalking Protection Order and Vulnerable Adult Protection Order. Maintains website with instructions and information on protection orders and maintains the Protection Order Portal (POP) which is accessible by link on the website or at this direct site: http://kcpao.kingcounty.gov/POP A DV protection order is a two part process which includes the filing of a temporary order and then a full protection order entered approximately 14 days later, if granted by the court. Temporary Domestic Violence Protection Order: A civil order that restrains the abuser (restrained person/respondent) from committing further acts of assault or violence against the person who has been victimized (protected person/petitioner). The petitioner (person seeking protection) must fill out a packet of forms that include providing a description of the acts of domestic violence that have occurred and the protections they are seeking. They will be asked to describe the most recent incident of domestic violence or fear of imminent harm and a history of any other incidents of domestic violence. Upon filing, the Petitioner should be prepared to provide the respondent’s home and/or work address or any contact information and birth date to help ensure that Law Enforcement can enter and serve the order on the respondent. A judge or commissioner will review the paperwork, ask questions, and decide whether or not to grant the temporary order (for 14 days). Full Domestic Violence Protection Order: An order that is granted after the court determines by a "preponderance of evidence" that domestic violence has occurred. At the full hearing, the judicial officer will give both parties (petitioner and respondent) the chance to talk about the allegations of domestic violence and whether the order should be granted or not. The full order can be in effect for one year or longer, in some cases. The process to obtain the full order may last for two to four hours, but the actual full hearing itself may only be about 15 to 30 minutes. Any time prior to the expiration date, the petitioner may return to court and request that the order be modified (to be made more or less restrictive) or terminated. The petitioner may also request a renewal of the full order up to three months before its expiration date.

Provides free, monthly, 30 minute legal clinics for family law and Immigration legal needs with a focus on serving the LGBTQ Latinx community. Volunteer attorneys work with clients to identify legal needs, potential legal actions and connect clients to further community legal services.   Assists with Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs (OIRA) legal clinics, with a particular focus on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program recipients and their family members.   Helps clients prepare for citizenship by confirming eligibility and providing free naturalization classes and workshops.    Lawyers and legal volunteers assist clients complete their N-400 naturalization petition and reviews them for accuracy.
