Assists with uncertainty regarding prognosis and goals of care.
Palliative Care staff, including social workers, nurses and physicians, work with the patient, the family and the patient’s professional health care providers to evaluate treatment options, identify support systems and assist with care coordination between the multiple disciplines serving the patient.

Offers a free, home-based program that provides relief from the pain, symptoms and stress of an illness to patients who have progressing illness with a limited prognosis. Does not provide hands on care.
Offers a home-based program that provides palliative care, which is relief from the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness. A team of social workers, a registered nurse and specially trained volunteers can
- Discuss feelings related to a new diagnosis or changes in the course of the illness
- Manage pain or other symptoms
- Find help with day-to-day needs as well as emotional and spiritual support
- Identify what’s most important and what kind of information is needed to make decisions
- Plan for expected changes as the illness progresses
Does not provide “hands on” care, but can help locate those services, if needed.

Palliative Care offered at Ashley House
Provides palliative care and nursing care for children with head injuries, pulmonary impairments, or similar disabilities; has room for families.
Ashley House provides compassionate care for medically fragile and technology-dependent children. Nursing, personal care and social services are provided in small group home settings. Ashley House provides a "home away from home" environment for the children and their families while delivering complex medical care and family support.
Children and families receive services individualized to meet their needs. Ashley House provides or arranges for:
- Twenty-four hour nursing care in a home-like setting. All care and treatment is under a doctor’s orders.
- Social work services and family support.
- Transportation to and from Doctor’s appointments.
- Training for the family so the family will be able to provide medical care for their child at home.
- Discharge planning to continue progressive recovery and transition to home.
- Physical, occupational and speech therapy to fit the unique needs of the child.
- Counseling for the child and family as needed.
- Education services through the school districts.
Also provides this service in Tacoma, Kent, Northshore, Auburn and Olympia.

Outpatient primary medical services include diagnosis and treatment, family medicine, geriatrics, pediatric care, immunizations, minor surgery, individual and family counseling (for patients), nursing care, a sleep laboratory, urgent care and public education.
The Swedish Heart and Vascular Institute and the Swedish Neuroscience Institute are located at the Cherry Hill Campus.
Heart and Vascular Institute offers advanced cardiovascular care, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The Neuroscience Institute provides diagnostics, medical and surgical treatments and rehabilitation resources in most neurological fields, including brain tumors, carotid artery stenosis, child neurology, multiple sclerosis, sleep disorders and stroke.
Palliative care helps patients and their families deal with physical, social, emotional and spiritual dimensions of death and dying.
Offers discharge planning which includes coordinating home care with other community resources and securing alternate living situations, as needed.
