WorkFirst Assists recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance from DSHS who need training in order to enter the workforce. WorkFirst funding typically covers tuition, required books and fees for the career training programs that are one year in length or shorter, as well as GED or High School completion.
Worker Retraining Provides funding for laid-off and dislocated workers as well as vulnerable workers who need training in order to return to the workforce.
Vulnerable workers are employed in an occupation that is not in demand, do not have a previous degree or certificate or need to learn new skills in order to keep their job. Training options include career training programs (certificates and AAS degrees), GED, high school completion, and English as a Second Language classes.
Opportunity Grant Provides education grants for low-income students who have not yet earned a degree and are studying an eligible program.
Enroll in an approved pathway of study: Aviation, business, education, healthcare, natural resources or welding.
Household income must be below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. Provides up to 45 credits of tuition and $1000 per academic year for books.

Financial assistance to help stay housed, gain or retain employment, support educational goals leading to employment, or meet basic needs. Intended for emergent or one-time situations.
The Resource Access Team is a multifunctional customer service team within the Department of Community and Human Services that will serve as a centralized information and resource referral system, making it easier for residents of King County to access the services they need. The Resource Access Team aims to help residents connect to resources, navigate services, or bridge short-term financial gaps.
The Resource Access Team may provide financial assistance to King County residents to help them gain or retain employment, support educational goals leading to employment, or meet basic needs, including but not limited to food, healthcare, shelter, childcare, transportation and safety. Resource Access Financial Assistance is intended for emergent or one-time situations and not intended for recurrent or regular needs.
The Resource Access Team does not provide rental assistance.

Provides assistance and support for entry or re-entry into the workforce through career training. This can be through financial assistance, basic needs/resource support, job placement assistance, or academic planning. There are various tuition assistance programs designed to support a student's personal and professional goals. If qualified, students may receive funding for tuition fees, textbooks, required supplies, transportation, and more. Each program is unique and provides additional assistance for students.
Basic Food Employment & Training Program: Provides tuition, fees, required textbook and transportation funding for recipients of federal food assistance (Basic Food or SNAP) to increase employment opportunities. To qualify, students must enroll in an eligible training program and meet the eligibility criteria.
WorkFirst: Provides tuition, fees and required textbooks for students who receive cash assistance from the DSHS Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, need training prior to working and have received approval to participate in WorkFirst from their DSHS case manager. To qualify for the WorkFirst program, students must enroll in an eligible training program and meet the eligibility criteria.

Seattle Central offers a variety of programs that help you get the training you need for the career you want. If you are enrolled or interested in enrolling in one of these programs, you may be eligible for funding and resources to help meet your career goals.
Our Workforce Services programs provide required tuition, fees, books and transportation. Academic planning and job placement assistance is also available to qualifying students.
Our Workforce programs include:

- Opportunity Grant: Available to low–income adults pursuing an approved program. Students may receive funds to cover tuition and mandatory fees up to 45 credits and up to $1,000 for required books and supplies per academic year.
- Student Emergency Assistance Grant (SEAG): Emergency funds available to students for sudden or unexpected “one-time” situations. There is limited funding available each quarter.
